A typical problem is shown in Fig. 14.6. A boy aged fourteen years is referred for evaluation of his short stature since his present height is only 140cm, which is below the third percentile. His skeletal maturity corresponds to that of a boy of eleven years of age, so his growth prognosis (170cm) is well within normal limits for the centile position of his parental heights (shown on the right of the chart). Whether he will achieve this potential depends upon whether he is growing at a normal rate and on how long he continues to grow, which is defined by his bone age.
